Jennifer Lopez Music Awards

,
Singer Jennifer Lopez Music Awards performs onstage at the American Music Awards 2011 held at Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE on November 20, 2011 in Los Angeles, California.
The fact that Jennifer Lopez Music Awards should deliver a provocative performance at the American Music Awards 2011 Sunday night wasn’t much of a surprise. She’s the kind of entertainer who knows how to titillate the public to her benefit - especially when it comes to attire. Lopez has made couture sizzle and has given near-nudity a ring of elegance.

American Music Awards Dresses

Pop culture and music fans will no doubt be talking about who won what category at the American Music Awards 2011 the following morning, but they’ll also be talking about who wore what.

Some people may look to the red carpet to see which big names have arrived, but others see it as the ultimate fashion runway.

Although it seemed as if a lot of the usual celebrities, like Beyonce, Rihanna, and even controversial teen superstar Miley Cyrus, were missing from the red carpet, there were still plenty of others that graced the awards ceremony.

Among the best american music awards dresses were Taylor Swift, Heidi Klum, Nicki Minaj, and Katherine Hiegl, some of who were winners of their categories.

Heidi Klum wore a metallic mini with floral patterned perforations by Giles Deacon. The "Project Runway" host and mother of four may have had cutouts that revealed a little bit of skin, but she kept it tasteful, unlike another fellow mother (ahem, J.Lo). Dressed similarly was Sarah Hyland, who plays Haley Dunphy on TV’s favorite comedy "Modern Family." The 20-year-old actress wore a strapless mini dress by Amen that was embellished with sparkling sequins.

Katherine Hiegl, who presented an award for favorite country album, wore a Roberto Cavalli dress. The floor length gown had a plunging neckline and frontal slit that was subtly sexy. The simple and understated gown was asymmetrically adorned with sequins on one shoulder.

Taylor Swift, who went home with three awards, dazzled in her full-length Reem Acra gown. The sequined gold number fit like a glove and emanated the golden girl’s sweet style. Although the 21-year-old singer looked elegant, she plays it on the safe side a little too often. Fellow award winner Nicki Minaj also looked fabulously fierce at the American Music Awards 2011. This is perhaps the 28-year-old rapper tamest outfit, but nonetheless, she made a statement in her bubblegum pink hair and an Oscar De La Renta gown. The black lace bodice was completed by a full emerald silk taffeta skirt.

Also catching our eye was Selena Gomez, whose style seems to keep improving. The actress-singer emanated old Hollywood glamour in a pale gold dress with a deep-V neckline and thigh slit. The Giorigio Armani dress featured a dropped waist with a tasseled tie detail. To complete her outfit, Gomez was accompanied by her boyfriend, teen heartthrob Justin Bieber.

But there were just as many fashion wrongs as there were rights.

Reality star Audrina Partridge stepped out in a strapless micro mini. The side cutout seemed like an awkward afterthought, and it looked like that piece of fabric was just attached onto the bust of the other side. Her towering platform heels went over the top and looked tacky.

Speaking of tacky, media personality Phoebe Price wore a white floor length gown that was decked out in a lined and dotted symmetrical pattern. She paired the dress with a fur shrug and a strange concoction of a hat that is easily worse than the ones seen at the Royal Wedding.

Even though Katy Perry was honored as the only female pop star to have five No. 1 singles from one album, she definitely didn’t win any awards in the style category. Her Vivienne Westwood gown looked washed out, and the Chinese print was a definite miss. The singer, known for her quirky style, wore a different dress in shades of pink during her performance at the awards ceremony, which was only a slight improvement from before. It was the mullet version of a gown—structured on top and loose on the bottom.

Kimberly Perry of The Band Perry wore a Bottega Veneta piece on the red carpet. Unfortunately for her, Emma Stone donned the exact same dress five months ago and also looked five times better. The dress looked frumpy on the 28-year-old country singer, and the tassels on the bottom only reminded us further of grandma’s drapes.

But perhaps one of the worst dressed at American Music Awards 2011 was Jennifer Lopez. The usually clean and classy star bared too much skin during her performance on stage and gave the illusion of being naked. The transparent bodysuit featured the bare minimum amount of sequins to still be allowed on television. Not only was her outfit too revealing, her raunchy performance was also tasteless. When the 42-year-old mother accepted her award, she continued with the revealing trend in a one sleeved sheer gown. The black lace dress conveniently covered the appropriate places and perhaps would’ve been highly praised if she had not just been so scantily clad. Jenny From The Block may have won favorite artist in Latin music, but her overall performance, which was basically a live Fiat commercial, and attire was heavily criticized.

What a lot of wonderful gowns we saw at the American Music Awards 2011! Selena Gomez, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift [above] were clowning around in an array of bright, sparkly frocks - can you BELIEVE Ms Minaj was in an Oscar de la Renta ballgown?! - while Jennifer Lopez hit the stage in a brilliant glow-in-the-dark number. There was a lot of silvery delights on show too courtesy of Heidi Klum in a wicked Giles dress, Jennifer Hudson in metallic Jenny Packham and the aforementioned Selena in a veeery slinky gown. So without further ado, here's our round-up of who wore what...

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2011 - WINNERS

American Music Awards 2011 Winners in Nokia Theatre Los Angeles

At last night's American Music Awards 2011, there was Taylor Swift and there was everyone else. Donning an appropriately gold gown, she was the gold standard Sunday.

Swift took home top honors at the American Music Awards 2011 as the artist of the year.
"This is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me," the singer, who also won that honor the last time this award show was held in 2009, said.
"Thank you to the fans. Please, never change."

Swift was also recognized as the favorite country female artist (a foregone conclusion), and her 2010 record Speak Now was dubbed the top country album.

The audience at L.A.'s Nokia Theatre was treated to a star-studded night of electronic, explosive, backing track-assisted performances, closed out by LMFAO.

The group delivered an appropriate medley of “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy And I Know It,” featuring a dance cameo by none other than Justin Bieber ...

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2011 - Pitbull

American Music Awards 2011 Performers

Pitbull

Pitbull's critically acclaimed sixth studio album Planet Pit was named Best Party Album by Entertainment Weekly. The New York Times said "Pitbull, now more important than ever, and more popular, thanks to his irrepressible new album" and The Washington Post called Planet Pit "its own future Greatest Hits package."
"Give Me Everything" marks his first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Top 40 Mainstream and Rhythm charts. A global phenomenon, the smash hit went #1 in the UK and reached the Top 10 in over 15 countries. Planet Pit features a host of pop music luminaries including Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias, Chris Brown, T-Pain and Kelly Rowland as well as star-studded producers Dr. Luke, Max Martin, RedOne, David Guetta and Benny Blanco.
Pitbull's latest single "Rain Over Me" featuring Marc Anthony is already gaining heavy momentum as it makes its way up the charts. First single and club anthem "Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)" with T-Pain was a Top 10 smash at Rhythm and Top 40 last fall, setting the standard for a string of hits off Planet Pit.
Pitbull made an impressive television launch for Planet Pit with appearances on Dancing with the Stars, Billboard Music Awards, The Voice Finals and gained the biggest crowd yet for this summer's Today Show Concert Series. He has collaborated with some of music's biggest stars including Enrique Iglesias, Usher, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Pitbull's last album Rebelution produced such global hits as "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)," which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, club favorites "Hotel Room Service" and "Krazy."
Pitbull won the Best Male Music Artist award at the American Music Awards 2011. He also won the first ever "Latin Digital Download Artist of The Year" award at the Billboard Latin Music Awards and was honored with a "Special Achievement in Music – Hot Track" award for "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" at the 4th Annual ALMA Awards.
Pitbull is also an entrepreneur, inking major sponsorship deals with blue-chip brands Kodak, Dr Pepper, Bud Light, the dissolvable energy strip Sheets and his own line of premium low calorie vodka, Voli.

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2011 - Nicki Minaj

,

American Music Awards 2011 Performers

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj knows how female rappers electrify fans; after all she used to be a fan herself. "I know I was always excited by whatever female was hot at the time," Nicki Minaj says.
Today, fans are saying the same thing about her: part comic, part sex symbol and all-the-way lyrical assassin. She has everyone talking about her fiery verse on Kanye West's "Monster," which also features Jay-Z, and her infectious, standout appearances alongside Lil Wayne ("Knockout"), Usher ("Lil Freak"), Trey Songz ("Bottoms Up"), Robin Thicke ("Shakin' It 4 Daddy"), Sean Kingston ("Letting Go"), Christina Aguliera ("WooHoo"), and as a member of Young Money (among many others) have catapulted the Queens, NY entertainer to the forefront of the music industry.
Her appeal is undeniably intoxicating, and her flurry of success has cast Nicki in a unique position with the debut of her album Pink Friday, featuring production from heavy-hitters Will.i.am and Swizz Beatz, among others.

American Music Awards 2011 Performers

Maroon 5

Capturing their first of three Grammy Awards as "Best New Artist" of 2005 and going on to sell more than 15 million albums worldwide, Maroon 5 has won over fans and critics alike with the hybrid rock/R&B sound they introduced on their debut album, Songs About Jane. The band recently released their third studio album, Hands All Over, which spawned the Grammy-nominated single, "Misery." Maroon 5's latest hit, "Moves Like Jagger," reached the No. 1 spot on the Top 40 and Billboard Hot 100 charts. In addition, Adam Levine will return in February as one of the celebrity coaches on NBC's The Voice.

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2011 - Katy Perry

,

American Music Awards 2011 Performers

Katy Perry

"I can't run from where I came from, nobody can," says Katy Perry. When it came time to make her exhilarating second album Teenage Dream, Katy found herself increasingly drawn back home to Santa Barbara, Calif. Back to where they knew her before she became a superstar. Before she kissed a girl and liked it. And, certainly, before she sold 5 million copies of her Capitol Records blockbuster, One of the Boys.

"I love the vibe that Santa Barbara gives off and I wanted to really tap into the purity of my childhood and that feeling," says the two-time Grammy nominated singer. "It was really fun to get away and walk into the studio with no make-up on."

Teenage Dream, out Aug. 24, will move you, both emotionally and physically. "When I was touring, I wanted people to dance more," Katy says. "So I wrote an album that made people move, yet didn't sacrifice the story substance that I had on the last record."

The album, whose producers include Max Martin, Tricky Stewart, Stargate, Dr. Luke and Greg Wells, is a glorious evolution from One of The Boys, It showcases an artist who dares us to join her as she experiences every facet of life.

"I'm giving everyone the full spectrum on this record," Katy says. "You're getting the sugary sweet, but you're also getting the 'Oh my goodness, she had to sit down for a minute and let some things off her chest'."
Fun first single, "California Gurls," declared by Entertainment Weekly as "unforgettable," is the undeniable summer anthem of 2010. Featuring Snoop Dogg, "Gurls" is a sizzling salute to sun-kissed days spent in Daisy Dukes and a bikini top. Other album highlights include the heartbreakingly wistful "The One that Got Away," the naughty, playful strut of "Peacock," the uplifting "Firework," the pulsing, stinging "Circle the Drain," and the spiritual quest of "Who Am I Living For."

And then, of course, there's the passionate, thumping title track. "I called the album Teenage Dream because I feel like I will always want to be that pin-up poster," Katy says. "I definitely want to be in everybody's dreams at all times until I get to Liz Taylor's age when I'm not in your dreams anymore, and I'm just a diva!"

It's irreverent statements like this that have branded Katy a true American original. She's the extremely talented girl next door with slyly captivating charm. After Katy topped Maxim's Hot 100 this Spring, Maxim editor-in-chief Joe Levy mused of her appeal: "It's that feeling you get when you suddenly realize that the smartest, funniest, coolest girl you know also happens to the best looking and a pretty good skateboarder, too. All of sudden, your crush goes supernova, and this is Katy's supernova moment."

She's the face most likely to adorn the bedroom walls of young girls who adore Katy not only for her musical brio, but for her playful yet sophisticated fashion sense (Who else could wear a blinking dress that lights up to the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute's Gala?) "I don't ever really want to come off as trashy," she says. 'But I want people to know I'm definitely having fun."

Of that, there's no doubt. Seldom has an artist catapulted onto the world scene and captured not only people's ears, but their hearts as well. Since the 2008 release of One of the Boys, Katy has taken a jet-fueled rocket pack to the top, wowing fans with her often whimsical, irresistible pop songs. Katy topped charts in more than 25 countries with cultural phenomenon "I Kissed a Girl," "Hot N Cold," "Thinking Of You" and "Waking Up in Vegas," and has sold more than 22 million digital tracks and mobile products worldwide.
Katy erases any barrier between pop star and audience by writing all her own material. "You're getting a pure connection to the artist," Katy says. "You're not getting some idea of what that artist should be, you're getting a direct voice."

Nowhere is Katy's voice and vision clearer than in concert. She is a relentless road warrior, albeit one who comes complete with gigantic, blow up plastic strawberries to toss into the audience. As a newcomer, she stormed the Warped Tour stage for 47 dates in 2008, immediately winning over hardened rock fans with her ceaselessly energetic live show. Since then, she has steadily built audiences across the planet by touching down in more than two dozen countries and filling increasingly larger venues each time she returned to a city. 2009's headlining One of the Boys tour was a phenomenal success, selling out around the world.

She's also a popular television draw, appearing on countless talk shows, presenting and performing on the Grammys living out her lifelong dream of being lowered from the ceiling in a 600 lb. banana, serving as a guest judge on American Idol, a celebrity contestant on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and hosting MTV's Europe Music Awards twice. More often than not she's adding to her trophy case at each stop, winning Best New Act at the Europe Music Awards, Best Pop Video at the MTV Japan Awards and International Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards.

As much as her life seems to play itself out in the press—she's appeared on the cover of more than 15 magazines–she reminds us the real Katy is in every note and every word of her music. "If you ever want an answer about how I felt about something or what I was going through or what I believe or my convictions or my love," she says, "You just have to listen to the lyrics." We can't wait to hear every word she has to say.
